Before it had a name, Silkwood was just thick woods between the ridge and the ash sea. Woodcutters from Velmora went in at dawn and came back before the bell. One winter, they didn’t. By spring, the trees were wrapped in white silk from root to crown, and the silk was still warm.

The elders say the forest wasn’t taken. It was stitched.
